The Netherlands is home to a wealth of contemporary art, often 'hidden' in private collections. From 18 September 2024, Singer museum, Laren (NL) brings together a selection of these artworks in My World. The exhibition offers a unique insight into some of the most important private Dutch collections with top-quality international contemporary art. The exhibition is curated by art critic and curator Hans den Hartog Jager and highlights the world that an art collector builds and continues to expand.
In My World, the visitor travels through seven museum rooms, each with its own theme and atmosphere. From a room full of portraits and human figures that hold up a mirror to us, to the final room in which heaven and the universe are central. Here we are briefly confronted with the intangible and eternity.
Hans den Hartog Jager: “My World is about creating your own world. Artists do this through their paintings, sculptures and photographs. But collectors also build a self-portrait with the art they add to their collection – the choices they make reflect their taste, their personality, their past."
Long tradition
The exhibition is part of a long tradition of Singer Laren to show work from private collections. By working together with collectors, the museum makes art that is normally not accessible to the public, visible. The museum invites everyone to discover the world of contemporary art and to experience how works of art can expand and enrich everyone's world.
