Museum de Fundatie in Zwolle (NL) has acquired four artworks by Dutch photographer Dana Lixenberg (b. 1964, Amsterdam, NL). The artworks were part of the exhibition (EX-)CHANGE - Proto: Dana Lixenberg, Richard Hutten and students on view from 24 June – 24 September 2023.
Dana Lixenberg often works in series and on long-term projects, always with her analog 4x5” camera on a tripod. She approaches the people she photographs with analytical accuracy and without judgement. The works presented in the exhibition focused on the relationship between her subjects with their environment, in particular the role of the chair in the portrait - from simple folding chairs to expensive armchairs.
Dana Lixenberg studied photography at the London College of Printing (UK) from 1984 to 1986, and at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam (NL) from 1987 until 1989. Her work is collected widely and has been exhibited at institutions such as Aperture Foundation, New York, NY (US); Mai Manó Ház, Budapest (HU); Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam (NL); Centre Photographique, Rouen (FR); MMK, Frankfurt am Main (DE); The Photographers’ Gallery, London (UK); Busan Biennale (KR); Huis Marseille, Amsterdam (NL); LACP, Los Angeles, CA (US); Fotomuseum Den Haag, The Hague (NL) and Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (NL).
