Matthias Weischer: Thicket
It is with great pleasure that we announce the first gallery exhibition in the Netherlands by Matthias Weischer (Elte, 1973) since his solo exhibition at the Gemeentemuseum in the Hague in 2008.
The exhibition will be on show at the Frans Halsstraat gallery and it will include solely new paintings.
Matthias Weischer’s oeuvre exists predominantly of paintings and drawings that oscillate between the real and the imagined. an important and recurring theme in his oeuvre is the rediscovery of the interior as a theme in painting. his paintings often show private interior spaces that are isolated from the world, which is underlined by the absence of doors and windows. Voyeuristic feelings creep up and one wonders who lives in these rooms and what their lives are like, but Weischer does not provide intimate insights. nothing in the sometimes sparsely furnished and sometimes stuffed rooms offers orientation or something to hold on to.
