GRIMM opens in New York

17 May 2017 - 02 June 2017

GRIMM is proud to announce the opening of an exhibition space in New York on June 2nd. The gallery will be located on the Lower East Side at 202 Bowery.

We look forward to presenting upcoming exhibitions by Nick van Woert (US, 1979), Dana Lixenberg (NL, 1964), William Monk (UK, 1977), Desiree Dolron (NL, 1963), Elizabeth Price (UK, 1966), Ger van Elk (NL, 1941-2014), Charles Avery (UK, 1973), Adriano Amaral (BR, 1982), Alex Dordoy (UK, 1985) and Caroline Walker (UK, 1982), as well as exhibitions by many other artists from our program.

As a gallery we take a long-term view, together with many of our peers and colleagues. Contrary to current sentiment, we strongly believe that a physical space is still the foremost crucial asset to further and nurture an artist’s development and career. By expanding to New York we provide our artists with a platform to exhibit in the most important centre of the art world and we aim to ambitiously develop our program.

The gallery will have 2,300 sq. feet of exhibition space on the ground floor and 1,000 sq. feet of exhibition space on the lower level. We will open with a solo exhibition by Nick van Woert on June 2nd. A detailed press release will follow shortly.

For further information regarding our New York gallery please contact gallery director Margot Samel:

Group exhibition IN THE ABSTRACT @ MASS MoCA

6 May 2017 - 28 April 2018

Sawdust-encrusted canvases, clothes, and blankets strung across a gallery appearing like fields of color, geometric stacks of bunk beds aglow in the pink light of colorful glass panels. The muscular works featured in In the Abstract merge the formal gestures and historical associations of abstract painting with recognizable imagery and everyday objects to point to social and political realities of today.

Form, color, and gesture act as metaphors for how we process the world around us and convey emotional, philosophical, and spiritual states. Exhibition artists include Doug Ashford, Aidas Bareikis, Sarah Braman, Tomashi Jackson, Rosy Keyser, Eric N. Mack, Rose Marcus, Rodney McMillian, Matt Saunders, Letha Wilson, and Brenna Youngblood.

SOLO Caroline Walker @ Space K, Gwacheon, South Korea

6 February 2017 - 31 March 2017

Caroline Walker's work reflects on the socio-cultural aspects of femininity by observing women in daily life with an intimate gaze. In this exhibition, she presents new works based on London's beauty salons. Selected through multiple snapshots, these scenes are portrayed as a socio-cultural space where intimacy and relationships converge, not merely as entertainment spaces that consume a woman's beauty and taste.

Solo Atelier van Lieshout @ Galerie Krinzinger

25 November 2016 - 21 December 2016

Der Hausfreund is your most ambiguous friend. Like the postman, he comes around
all too often, especially when you yourself are not around. A friend of different faces
and functions – just like the multifaceted artworks of Dutch sculptor Joep van
Lieshout at Galerie Krinzinger. Mimicking a domestic setting, the gallery shows a
selection of Van Lieshout’s recent artworks, which ask questions about destruction
and renewal, coincidence and concept, minimalism and functionality.
