Matthew Day Jackson (b. 1974) is fascinated by history, especially the way we remember the past and bend it to our will. In doing so, he often creates works whose subjects are destruction - of nature, of buildings and cities, of man himself. For Into Nature: Out of Darkness, Day Jackson created a spectacular site-specific installation in the abandoned greenhouses of the Horticultural School, based the theme of the "reclining nude": nude charred figures that are both proud and powerful and vulnerable.
