GRIMM is pleased to announce the recent acquisition of Poikilos (2024) by Francesca Mollett to the collection of the Dallas Museum of Art in Dallas, TX (US).
The painting was part of her solo exhibition Francesca Mollett: Elsewhere presented at The Warehouse, Dallas, TX (US) earlier this year. Part of a series of works reflective of her fascination with the connection between light, form and immediacy, Mollett's paintings delve into the relations between space and context, tracing reflections of light and surface formed through a fluid yet precise process. Drawn to the impossibility of capturing atmosphere, compositions evolve by extracting observations from an image, which then slowly transform into shifting passages of paint, unfurling the fragile tension between luminosity and solidity. Often influenced by literature, Mollett reveals a deep relationship between the ethos of life and of time, elusive and unable to be articulated through representation alone. In this, abstraction - through colour and texture - becomes an attentive way of considering these affinities.
