London-based artist Gabriella Boyd will stage a solo exhibition of new paintings at Cample Line in Dumfriesshire opening 23 March and running through to 2 June 2024. Boyd’s paintings combine representational and abstract languages, through which she transforms scenes of human encounter and interaction into vibrant fields of colour, expressionistic shape and associative meaning.
In her work, she interrogates the ‘space between our physical experience of the world and our mental understanding of it. The meeting of those can be quite clumsy, or complicated, or at odds with each other. In that messy territory I seek out tenderness, humour, discomfort through paint.’
Using a palette including greens, yellows, warm pinks and reds, Boyd is led by the emotive properties of colour, working in a largely intuitive way. In 2022 she opened Mile, a solo exhibition at GRIMM, New York, which included a group of twenty new paintings, made simultaneously over the course of the previous year between Glasgow and London.
Boyd will open her latest solo exhibition Landing at GRIMM London on Friday 17 November running to the 22 December 2023.
