Arturo Kameya: "We, On the Rising Wave" at the Busan Biennale, 2022

Arturo Kameya will be exhibiting at this year's Busan Biennale, "We, on the rising wave" (SK).

This exhibition takes Busan as a starting point in reflecting on the stories that remain or lie hidden within the history of Busan since the modern era and the changes in the city’s structure, and examining them in relation to the reality in the world.

Arturo Kameya’s work examines the narratives and myths that comprise different versions of history, with a distinct focus on indigenous cultures. Kameya works with various mediums, including: acrylic, plaster, film, and print making. His multi-media artworks are often arranged together to create large-scale installations that delineate connections between disparate historical events, by linking together a range of visual-cultural languages which have been formed over time. Recent works closely examine the fabric of contextualized urban environments, while embracing the contradictions that come with knowing a place intimately. His work has garnered increasing attention in recent years for attentive and direct critical depictions of his native country that narrate both the troubling and familiar aspects of life there.

"We, On the Rising Wave" is on view from September 3 - November 6, 2022.
