Rosalind Nashashibi appointed the new 2020 artist-in-residence at the National Gallery, London

Rosalind Nashashibi

Rosalind Nashashibi was appointed the 2020 National Gallery Artist in Residence in collaboration with the Pier Arts Centre in Stromness, Orkney. During the residency she spent time with both collections, reflecting on how they have influenced her own practice as a painter, and exploring the ongoing dialogue between the art of the past and that of today. The residency culminated in a publication and display of her new work in dialogue with the National Gallery’s Spanish Baroque collection in Room 30 in December 2020.

The exhibition An Overflow of Passion and Sentiment presented Nashashibi’s paintings alongside works of art by Diego Velázquez, Jusepe de Ribera and Francisco de Zurbarán.

The publication presents Nashashibi’s new paintings, developed during the residency, alongside essays about her earlier work and influences, and conversations between Nashashibi and two artist colleagues, Elena Narbutaitė and Lucy Skaer.
