Kati Heck's painting combine mulple genres including literature, art history, folklore, and lived experience. Her works are realistic yet surreal. She works primarily as a painter but her works also incorporate sculpture, film, performance, and photography. Heck’s recent solo shows include: Hauruck d’Orange, GEM, The Hague (NL) in 2020, All my friends are wild, Tim Van Laere Gallery, Antwerp (BE) in 2019, Kati Heck, Sadie Coles HQ, London (UK) in 2017. Kati Heck’s interdisciplinary practice lends a contemporary lens to large-scale Surrealist and German Expressionist painting histories. Often carrying a theme across many different works, Heck transforms folkloric symbolism into humorous signs derived from her personal surroundings. Through non-traditional methods and monumental scale, Heck examines the cannon of representational painting, questioning our conception of “the real”.

Kati Heck participates in the exhibition Condition Humaine, October 29 - December 4, 2021. For more information about the artist please vist Sadie Coles HQ.
