'Settlement I' depicts a dining table topped with empty bottles, glasses half full, and a T.V. set capturing the face of Alberto Fujimori, the former president of the republic, drinking beer on a then popular show called “Trampoline to fame." The '90s program was a contest series known for exploiting its participants who often came from the poorest sectors of Lima. At the time, while Fujimori was seeking popular support for re-election, the series' presenter, Augusto Ferrando was coping with the show coming to an end - this exchange of favors was deemed beneficial for both parties.
