The artist constructs a combination of shapes sourced from Lima's street sound systems and pyrotechnic castles built for vernacular celebrations, as seen in Probe. This painting depicts the fictional character, Lo Pan from the American comedy film, "Big Trouble in Little China" hovering over Momotarō, a widely known Japanese folklore hero who was born from a giant peach.
Featured in popular Japanese TV series from the '90s. Momotarō grows up and embarks on a journey to seek and defeat the demons that torment and plunder the village where his adopted parents live. Taking centerstage in the work, he is surrounded by ancient Japanese illustrations of diseases and afflictions. Probe simulates a portrait of the artist's relative who passed away some time ago.
