Grimm Fine Art is pleased to present a solo exhibition of 12 new paintings by English artist William Monk that will run from the 24th of May through the 12h of July 2008.

In his new series of works, which include diptychs, triptychs, and multi-paneled canvases, Monk resolutely opts for an aesthetic language of pure colors and forms created around a consistent search for subtly contrasting shades of blue patterns along the lines of a process of natural accretion. More than ever, his new endeavor has a distinct decorative appearance, which stimulates the mind’s desire to find hidden meanings and which hints at a world of pure transcendence.

William Monk

William Monk’s scenographic works tap into the rich tradition of painting. Monk paints enigmatic and vibrant works, using starkly divisional compositions and often works in extensive series that gradually evolve over time. The canvases carry irregular intensities of detail, line, foreground and background, a sense of repetition breaks down the figuration, creating visual mantras.
