All of the works in 'Landing' are wedded to the experience of living in a city. When I made 'Battery' I was thinking of the under and inner workings of systems and circuits that constantly flow in and around us as we move through London.
The title 'Battery' refers to the conflation of flesh and electricity that happens when we use this word to communicate our own levels of reserve.
This work is predominantly painted in dark brown sweeps with an electric zip down the side. Are we looking at a cross section of a room or a gap between two brick buildings?
I was thinking of electricity running brightly down the right hand-side and the contrast of this single red flower set in the dark with the faintest glow around it
-central in the composition, but barley the protagonist of the painting, as if fleeting noticed on a curb or pavement.
A moment of still in a city.
